Six thousand years ago Bastet (the Cat God) sent African Wild Cats to save the Egyptians from starvation due to rodents eating and spoiling their stored grains. The cats came for the mice and stayed, self-domesticating themselves, moving in with the Egyptians who saw them as a gift from the gods having African Wild Cats to control mice and rats raiding granaries. From these self-tamed animals, the domestic cat was bred. Although it is an agile tree climber, this cat spends most of its time on the ground.
